At the end of May, NBC announced that the 13th season of Chicago PD will be the last one (for now). True, there’s still a chance that the show will continue in some form, but due to NBC’s schedule and the fact that the show is no longer the top-rated drama on the network, it’s not a given. Plus, the show is also struggling to regain its audience after a nearly two-year hiatus. Therefore, the current plan is for Chicago PD to complete its run with 13 episodes.
As it’s been a few months since the first season of Chicago PD has aired, it’s a good time to ask “when does the second season premiere?” If you’ve been a fan of the series, you know by now it’s safe to assume Chicago PD will return with a new episode sometime in the fall. But when is it? That’s the question we want to answer, in this in-depth blog post, in order to help in our effort to make you the best Chicago PD fan you can possibly be.
When is Chicago PD Season 3? Well with rumors flying around that the third season of the Chicago PD has been picked up by NBC for its fall run, we figured we would ask the people that know. I talked to a few cast and crew members and found out that it is happening, but not for a few years.
This is a fascinating topic. Isn’t that so? What better way to learn more about something in detail than to watch a series or a movie on it?
Come up here, I’ve brought you something interesting! The Chicago Police Department series.
The ladies and men of the Chicago Police Department’s top echelon Intelligence Unit are the stars of “Chicago P.D.”, a gripping police thriller. Let’s take a closer look at it!
About the Chicago Police Department
As part of the Chicago franchise, Chicago P.D. is an American police investigative action dramatic television show produced by Wolf Entertainment and created by Dick Wolf and Matt Olmstead. The drama premiered on NBC as a midseason replacement on January 8, 2014.
The series follows patrolling police officers and the Intelligence Bureau of the Chicago Police Department’s 21st District as they pursue suspects of the city’s most serious crimes.
Dick Wolf, a multiple Emmy Award-winning executive producer, and the team behind the popular program “Chicago Fire” are behind this top police series.
What Is The Backstory To The Chicago Police Department?
The fictional 21st District of the Chicago Police Department is home to both patrol officers and the agency’s top intelligence unit. And Detective Sergeant Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) is the leader of this Intelligence Unit.
Both patrol and intelligence operative officers are emphasized in the first three seasons and the first part of season four. And this occurs before moving to the Intelligence Unit in Season 4’s second half.
Officer Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) and Officer Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) have both advanced to the Intelligence Unit when this change occurs.
In the Chicago Police Department, what does PD stand for?
The PD stands for the Police Department, as many of you know. The Chicago Police Department (CPD) is the law enforcement agency for the city of Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. It is overseen by the City Council. The Chicago Police Department has a history of police brutality, particularly towards the city’s African-American population.
Who Are the Chicago PD Cast Members?
Voight was hand-picked to head this team, and he is the one who put together a diverse group of investigators. His team of detectives admires his passion and commitment to keeping the city safe.
Det. Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) is a lot more level-headed and “by the book” police officer than his peers. While Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) is a brazen young investigator who served in the military in the Middle East for a while.
Erin Lindsay (Sophia Bush), Halstead’s colleague, is a former “bad girl” who transformed her life with Voight’s assistance. Alvin Olinsky (Elias Koteas) is a seasoned covert operative.
Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) is a patrol officer who wants to one day join the renowned Intelligence Unit, while Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) is a colorful patrol officer with a vibrant community interactor. Sheldon Jin (Archie Kao) seems to be the espionage and technological operations wizard in chief.
Sergeant Hank Voight of the Intelligence Team is played by Jason Beghe, while Detective Antonio Dawson is played by Jon Seda. Previously, Tania Raymonde, Kelly Blatz, Scott Eastwood, and Melissa Sagemiller had been selected.
Nonetheless, the casting team started to shift as the show proceeded through pre-production.
Is the Chicago Police Department’s Intelligence Unit real?
The CPD does have an intelligence section, but it is not what you see on TV.
They don’t commit proactive or dynamic crimes. Instead, they gather information on criminal activity and illegal enterprises, investigate, and work with the state attorney general’s office to prosecute the worst offenders.
In an ancient district headquarters, the real intelligence section is also not stationed alongside patrols.
Instead, they are housed at the historic Sears offices/warehouses on the city’s western outskirts known as Homan Square, along with several other centralised divisions.

Why Did Melissa Sagemiller Resign from the Chicago Police Department?
Melissa Sagemiller has left NBC’s Chicago Fire spin-off, which is set to premiere in the middle of the season. The character of CPD Detective Willhite, played by Sagemiller, first appeared in Season 1’s closing episode (called the premiere of Chicago PD).
“I left because what I’ve realized is that I’ve been so indoctrinated to be a nice girl and a worker and a tugboat that I’ve always put the crew, the show, and the group before of my own health,” the activist said.
What Happened To Browning On The Chicago Police Department?
Officer Michael Browning was assassinated after responding to a car dealership robbery. Patrolman Browning had likewise just been with the West Chicago Police Department for five months when he was killed. Prior to being sworn in as an officer, he had served as an apprentice for two years.
In Real Life, Who Is Hank Voight?
Henry “Hank” Voight is a fictional character in the television series Chicago P.D. He was a recurring character in Chicago Fire and a major role in Chicago P.D. as the head of the Chicago Police Department’s Intelligence Unit, which operates out of the 21st District.
Why was Jon Seda fired from the Chicago Police Department?
The departure of Jon Seda, who starred as Detective Antonio Dawson on NBC’s hit show Chicago P.D., is perhaps the most devastating of the show’s numerous cast departures. Many fans had been watching Seda’s character’s development on this One Chicago serial for six seasons, and he had captivated their hearts.
His fans were taken aback when he announced his resignation, and they were left wondering why he had departed the show.
Seda remained calm when questioned about his retirement from the Chicago Police Department, describing his six-year tenure as Detective Dawson as “an honour.” Although he didn’t seem to have any regrets about leaving the program, it’s a pity he departed so soon after his character’s painkiller addiction relapse.
What Is The Chicago Police Department’s Rating?
Season seven of Chicago PD on NBC averaged a 1.09 rating among adults 18-49 and 7.05 million viewers. These are not to be confused with quick affiliate statistics, which are just estimates of actual ratings.
With 30,946 user votes, the IMDb rating is 8.1/10. This is a well-received series.

Reviews of the Chicago Police Department
The Chicago Police Department maintains a positive attitude in its efforts to fight the city’s most heinous crimes committed by criminal gangs. Offensive crimes, drug trafficking, high-profile slayings, and other crimes are all part of these gangs’ repertoire.
This provides a good sense of accomplishment and willpower to complete any difficult job.
People are continuously placed in danger and pushed into hazard as a result of frequent and brutal violence: gunfights and shootings with blood, death, and gore; shots of severed limbs and dead corpses; and people are continually put in danger and forced into trouble. This is the exact cause for the series’ 13G underrating.
This is an excellent television program. The transitions between Chicago Fire and Chicago Med are done really well. This is a fantastic performance, and I really like how authentic the presentation and acting are. Hank Voight’s character is tough to like at first, but as the program continues, you’ll fall in love with him.
This drama is filled with romance, which will drive you crazy as you learn more about the characters. I appreciate the performers, actresses, and authors because without them, we would not have a good television program. This is a series worth binge-watching.
Is Chicago PD going to be canceled in 2023?
In the Chicago PD season 8 finale, the majority of the show focused on Officer Kim Burgess, who almost died before being taken into surgery. We also received a surprise proposal, and fans are on the verge of finding out if Halstead and Upton will be engaged and married.
Fortunately, we can confirm that Chicago PD has not been canceled and has been renewed for seasons 8, 9, and 10 in 2023. With such a successful brand, it’s no surprise that all three One Chicago programs were extended for many seasons, but you can never be too sure with broadcast television.
Where Can I Watch The Chicago Police Department Series?
All seasons of Chicago PD are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, and the NBC network’s website. However, don’t forget to acquire your membership first.
